Additional Information

Description Stax Records is synonymous with Southern soul music. Originally known as Satellite, the Memphis company was founded in 1959 by Jim Stewart and his sister Estelle Axton, and took its new name in 1961 from the first two letters of their last names. Among the many artists who scored #1 hits on Stax and its Volt subsidiary during the Sixties were Booker T. & the MG's (an interracial quartet that also served as the company's rhythm section), Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd, and Otis Redding. Redding's death in 1967 signaled the end of the first Stax era. Subsequently the company spawned a new crop of #1 hit-makers in the '70s, among them Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, and The Dramatics. This new collection presents all fifteen of Stax's #1 hit singles (Billboard R&B and/or Pop charts) from the Sixties and Seventies.

Tracks:
1) Green Onions - Booker T. & The MG's
2) Hold On! I'm Comin' - Sam & Dave
3) Knock On Wood - Eddie Floyd
4) Soul Man - Sam & Dave
5) (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay - Otis Redding
6) Who's Making Love - Johnnie Taylor
